If you have an untried, untested dog that you are keen to use in your professional practice it can be quite daunting to work out how to actually get going and find the starting point. Not all dogs like doing all of things you have planned.
One way is for you and your dog to volunteer for one of the following charities. The best of them will:
- Independently assess your dog out in the real world
- Provide training, guidelines and resources
- Provide branded clothing
- Provide places to visit or help you find our own
- Provide ongoing support
- Pay mileage
Don’t be put off if their Headquarters are miles away from you, most charities offer a nationwide service. Do your research; as always some will be more organised / effective than others. One might simply be a better fit for you and what you eventually hope to achieve in your CPPD business.
Although this may take up some volunteering time, what you do and when / where you do it is ultimately up to you to agree but it can be a great way to get started and for your dog to tell you if s/he enjoys this sort of work. From a business perspective, it doesn’t do any harm to say your dog is assessed as suitable to work for a national charity.
There might be local ones around where you live, but these are the best known national charities:
